Office 2010 is a big improvement. One annoying thing is the integration with Sharepoint. Sharepoint sucks beyond belief. It is the worst excuse for a Wiki and a terrible imitator of a collaboration tool. It is a tool designed to keep you hooked on Office as its focus is the publishing of Office documents. Microsoft has to keep its money sucking black hole called Windows Mobile alive somehow. Anyway, there is an annoying context menu option added called “Shared Folder Synchronization.” Nothing is ever allowed to invade my context menu.
This is easy to remove though. No need to muck with the registry. Just unregister the DLL. The DLL in question is called grooveex.dll. It is used for Microsoft SharePoint Workspace Extensions.
run this for 64-bit OS:
regsvr32 /u “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14GROOVEEX.DLL”
run this for 32-bit OS:
regsvr32 /u “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice14GROOVEEX.DLL”
If you want to add it back in then:
regsvr32 “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14GROOVEEX.DLL”
regsvr32 “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice14GROOVEEX.DLL”
Much cleaner. At least a paper clip isn’t trying to help me.
